pastor Reverend Leroy Gilbert is a native of Albany, GA where he received his secondary education. After graduating from Monroe High School in 1965, he matriculated at American Baptist College, Nashville, TN where he earned a B.A. degree (Cum Laude) in 1969. While attending college, he was licensed and ordained for the Christian Ministry by the Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church, Nashville, TN. In 1969, Reverend Gilbert entered Howard University School of Religion, Washington, DC where he received a Master of Divinity degree. Immediately following graduation, he was commissioned a Chaplain in the United States Navy. In 1979, Reverend Gilbert attended Yale University Divinity School as a Naval Postgraduate Student and earned a Master of Sacred Theology (S.T.M.) degree. He was awarded a M.A. degree and pursued doctoral studies in counseling psychology from the United States International University, San Diego, CA. He has completed all the course requirements for the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, FL. Reverend Gilbert earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Organizational Leadership at Regent University, Virginia Beach, VA. He is presently the Senior Pastor, Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, Washington, DC. He retired from the Navy Chaplain Corps in July 2002. Among his assignments was the Chief of Chaplains for the United States Coast Guard.

Reverend Gilbert is a member of the National Baptist Convention, USA Inc. and the American Baptist Churches. His pastorates include, Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church, Manassas, VA; Co-Pastor, the Black Church at Yale, New Haven, CT; Senior Pastor, Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA; Senior Pastor, United States Coast Guard Academy. Reverend Gilbert is married to the former Sharon Elizabeth Berry of Washington, DC. They are blessed with one lovely daughter, Jessica, and a precious granddaughter, Saraiya.
